  • Ensures precise machining with low spindle runout

The Sherline 17" Ball Screw Benchtop Lathe is an advanced iteration of the renowned 4400-series benchtop lathe, featuring a robust design that enhances precision and durability. This model is distinguished by its solid aluminum base, which provides a highly rigid structure, and an upgraded saddle designed to accommodate ball screws. The lathe is equipped with a larger crosslide, measuring 8 inches, and is fitted with #23 NEMA frame stepper-motor mounts that include high-torque couplings, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.

The lathe offers a swing over bed of 5.97 inches and a swing over carriage of 1.75 inches, with a distance between centers of 17 inches. The spindle is engineered with a hole through diameter of 0.405 inches and features a spindle nose thread of 3/4-inch-16 T.P.I., along with a #1 Morse taper. The spindle runout is maintained at .0005 inches or less, ensuring high precision in machining tasks. The crosslide provides a travel distance of 4.6 inches, while the Z-axis travel extends to 14.45 inches, allowing for versatile machining capabilities.

The lathe is powered by a 90-volt DC motor, which is complemented by an electronic speed controller, offering a spindle speed range from 70 to 2800 RPM. This continuous variable speed control allows for precise adjustments to suit various machining requirements. The headstock is standard with a #1 Morse taper and a 3/4 x 16 external spindle thread, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of tooling.

Constructed from a 28-inch by 5-inch by 1/2-inch solid 6061 aluminum plate, the base of the lathe provides a stable and durable foundation. The saddle is hard anodized to ensure long-lasting wear resistance. The lathe also includes a 2.75-inch by 8.0-inch crosslide and a 24-inch steel bed, which accommodates 17 inches between centers. The leadscrew is equipped with a 2.5-inch resettable "zero" handwheel, facilitating precise control over machining operations.

Note: Ensure proper safety measures are followed during operation to prevent accidents or injuries.
